What We Are
The Beer Garden is our friendly little tavern in small town
Menno, South Dakota. A place were the beer is always cold and
the food is always hot! We offer a complete menu - from burgers to
steak - and Chislic!
A Brief History of The Beer Garden
Harold and Lucille Wollman bought the property in 1946, sold the
existing building to be moved, and erected a new building. The building served
as a mechanic garage and also their home, before opening it as Harold's Beer
Garden in 1951. He and his wife ran the business for 19 years.
Vern and Wilma Liebl bought the business in 1970 and renamed it
Vern's Beer Garden. In the summer, they served customers outside and in 1977,
they constructed a barbeque pit and served roasted pig as a specialty.
In 1991 the George and Tammy Liebl took over and changed the name to The
Beer Garden and by 1996, Tammy was on her own. Many repairs and small
cosmetic changes were been made, including expansion of the concessions area in
"The Garden". Chislic remained the featured item on the menu.
2004 brings yet another change in ownership with Ruth Mettler taking over.
Ruth undoubtedly has some changes in mind, but rest assured The Beer Garden
will remain for your enjoyment on your next visit to Menno, SD.
No visit to The Beer Garden would be
complete without trying our Chislic. Chislic
is a local specialty of mutton served cabob style. No visit to Menno would be
complete without a trip to The Beer Garden for some chislic.
